Systemic Racism and Anti Immigrant Rhetoric
October 11, 10:00am - 11:00amHonolulu Campus, Library
Immigration has been a fraught topic through much of U.S. history. The speakers will briefly analyze the institutionalization of racism through early anti-Asian immigrant laws and link anti-Asian rhetoric to Japanese incarceration during WWII. The speakers will also focus on court cases related to Japanese incarceration, compare Japanese, Italian, and German experiences, and examine the history of reparations legislation. The long term implications of anti-immigrant rhetoric in the U.S. will then be linked to current immigration policies.
