This Panel features a discussion on the role of mass media on perceptions of fact, fiction, and fear. The starting point is the work of Johan Grimonprez on view in the ART gallery.

In provocative and groundbreaking film essays and video installations he explores the evasive effects of media illusion on historical memory.

About the Panelists:

Christina Gerhardt is Associate Professor of Film and German Studies at UHM. She is author of Screening the Red Army Faction: Historical and Cultural Memory (2018).

Markus Wessendorf is Professor of Theatre and Dance and Acting Chair of the Academy for Creative Media at UHM.

Jairus Grove is Associate Professor of Political Science at UHM. His research is centered on the ecology and future of global warfare.
