Auditions for "Teacher! Teacher!"

January 17, 4:30pm - 5:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Studio S in Kennedy Theatre (1770 East-West Road)

This project integrates research and performance to explore the landscape of public education through the eyes of first-year teachers. Ethnodrama transforms research data, such as interview transcripts, into a creative product. In this case, researchers interview first-year teachers while performers develop a series of scenes, dances, poems, metaphors, and vignettes through playbuilding. Our playbuilding process involves creating ensemble pieces through collaboration, improvisation, feedback & revision--all based on the performers' strengths. The culminating performances target audiences composed of first year teachers and teacher candidates who are entering the field, an approach to applied theatre that focuses on challenging our community with real social issues and concerns.

PREPARE: The audition is a one-hour workshop which mirrors principles of playbuilding. Performers can expect to jump into theatre games, improvisation, and collaboration. No preparation required.
