Together in Crisis

January 6, 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Mānoa Campus, ONLINE

Please join us for a live conversation Vivek Murthy, co-chair of President-Elect Biden’s Covid task force and former Surgeon General of the United States. A failure of leadership has exacerbated the worst public health crisis in a century. A new administration takes power on January 20, but what can be done now that the virus is so widespread and so many lives have been lost? Join us to discuss urgent steps that Hawai‘i and the United States must take to manage the pandemic, mitigate inequalities, and fortify public health systems. Looking beyond the horizon, we will also discuss laying the groundwork for a more resilient, connected society, with hopes that we emerge from disaster healthier and happier than before. Hawai‘i guests include Maya Soetoro, consultant to the Obama Foundation; Kealoha Fox, Native Hawaiian Cultural Liaison for AlohaCare; and Lieutenant Governor Josh Green. Vivek Murthy is co-chair of President Elect Biden’s COVID-19 Advisory Board. He served as the 19th Surgeon General of the United States and launched national initiatives to address the opioid crisis and to alleviate chronic stress and isolation. A specialist in internal medicine, he received MD and MBA degrees from Yale and conducted research on vaccine development and clinical trials. His book, Together: The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World, is a New York Times bestseller. Presented by the Hawai‘i Community Foundation, Kamehameha Schools, and the UH Better Tomorrow Speaker Series.
