ORE Seminar: Science Communication: Student Practice Presentations

March 30, 3:30pm - 4:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Holmes Hall 247 & Zoom (see description for meeting ID and passcode)

Student presenters previously attended a workshop on effective science communication where they learned why, where and how to communicate with broad audiences about a field of study, with a particular focus on considering the perspective and priorities of a target audience, which is key to successfully and meaningfully communicating. After learning tools and guidelines to help distill complex or technical information into a succinct and impactful message, the students are now putting those lessons to work. The students will present brief presentations on technical topics ranging from mitigation of tsunami damage to using machine learning in processing oceanographic data with a specific less-technical target audience in mind. Please come and help provide feedback and engagement for these students to hone their science communication skills. This seminar will be given by the following graduate students in the Department of Ocean and Resources Engineering: Jonathan Chapman, Lauren Heslop, Tyler Inkley, and John Melve. Zoom meeting ID: 960 4654 5799, Passcode: OREseminar
