GSO is for you if you're a classified graduate student in a program other than Law or Medicine and are interested in serving other graduate students. As an elected representative, you become an active member of an organization that advocates for improving the quality of student life. You can make this happen by

  • ensuring student needs are met
  • student interests are nurtured
  • student concerns are addressed.

How can you meet student needs, nurture student interests, and address student concerns? By

  • advocating for policies that support students
  • advising the Dean of the Graduate Division on student concerns
  • representing graduate students on campus-wide committees
  • administering funds for travel monies
  • initiating and maintaining co-curricular programs relevant to graduate students, such as leadership development, grant-writing, etc.
Some of the transferable skills you'll acquire . . .
  • decision making -- how to make decisions that improve conditions for students
  • leadership - learning to implement an idea or vision
  • time management
  • networking - working with other students
  • public speaking
Make your university "student friendly" - join GSO.
