Involvement with KTUH is for you if you're interested in writing and reporting; being on on-air personality; learning how to produce or engineer shows; handling the accounts, the music library, the station's promotions; managing the station and its directors.

Some of the transferable skills you'll acquire . . .

  • speaking on air
  • producing public service announcements
  • managing staff and helping them accomplish goals
  • promoting your show and the station
  • creating a show that attracts listeners week after week
  • developing a production portfolio that will get you a job
  • hiring and supervising staff
  • budgeting and completing the paperwork necessary to get the equipment the station needs
  • attending national conventions to learn the latest about music and radio
  • running meetings
  • producing concerts and events and live music on air
  • convincing companies that they should sponsor your show
  • understanding the equipment necessary to run a radio station
  • knowing federal rules about broadcasting
  • learning about new music and people.

Time commitment required: at the beginning, 4 hours/week
