The more
than 100 current Registered Independent Organizations (RIOs) at the University
of Hawai‘i at Manoa serve the campus and greater community by providing
leadership development for students and by promoting community spirit,
activism, public service, and social, recreational, and cultural interaction
among UHM students, faculty, and staff.
Co-curricular Activities,
Programs & Services (CAPS) values programs and services that complement
all students' educational development and support the development and
growth of Registered Independent Organizations. RIOs provide a laboratory
of citizenship for training students in leadership and social responsibility.
RIOs afford students the opportunity to practice decision-making skills,
develop interpersonal communication skills, learn to reduce conflict
and solve problems, develop group management skills, and express opinions
and thoughts clearly.
If UHM has an organization
that matches your interests, you can get in touch with the RIO directly.
Go to Registered Independent Organizations List to see if the RIO has
an active website. Or you can contact the Co-curricular Activities,
Programs & Services (CAPS) office at 956-8178 or come to Campus
Center 208 for the RIO's contact information.
