BACKGROUND Noelani was born and raised on the Big Island, where she received a BA in Marine Science and Hawaiian Studies from UH Hilo. After which she jumped ship (almost literally) and received a MS in Environmental Science at Washington State University at Vancouver studying crinoids and groundfish while working on submersibles and ROV's. She was recruited back to Hawai‘i to work at HBMP on their Marine Gap project, which she now runs. Skills include knowledge of Hawaiian marine ecology, underwater research techniques, SCUBA diving, submersible protocols, Hawaiian language, GIS and databases. Mission is to communicate information about our marine environment with all members of our community including students, fisherman, managers and scientists and to promote responsibility of our actions.
