Ron and Ellen Chapman
After each of us returned from two years as Peace Corps Volunteers (Ron in the Philippines and Ellen in Brazil), we met in February 1967 in our first graduate library science class at UH Mānoa. We had several classes together and many conversations about our Peace Corps experiences. A few weeks into the semester, the HRT bus drivers went on strike. Ron had a car and offered to transport several of the library students to and from UHM for the duration of the strike. On the day before the buses started running again, Ron made sure I (Ellen) was the last to be dropped off. As I started to thank Ron for helping out in the past weeks, Ron interrupted and asked what time he should pick me up the next day. We were married in April 1968.
