UH Manoa Kicks Off National Sexual Responsibility Week with Condom Fair 2003
University of Hawaiʻi at MānoaThe University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa‘s Health Services Education Center presents its Condom Fair 2003 on Friday, February 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Campus Center. The fair, which is cosponsored by the UH Mānoa Activities Council, kicks off National Sexual Responsibility Week and emphasizes healthy relationships, communication and intimacy.
This is the 14th year the fair will be held, and each year there is an increased popularity. Approximately 5,000 students and visitors are anticipated. Some of the activities that will be available to them include a condom relay, condom toss, "Pop Goes The Condom," Love and Dating Pictionary, condom rose making, and a "How Do I Love Thee" board display.
"Beyond our goals of promoting a healthier campus community and lifestyle by encouraging safer sex, the mission for Condom Fair 2003 lies in the development of healthy relationships that are based on honesty, respect and communication," says Georgi Kinsela, special events coordinator for the Health Education Center.
Various other community and campus organizations will also be participating in the event, including the Cancer Information Center of Hawaiʻi, Hawaiʻi Immunization Coalition, Planned Parenthood of Hawaiʻi, Names Project of Hawaiʻi, Life Foundation, Keola Mamo, Waikiki Health Center, Blood Bank of Hawaiʻi, and 24 Hour Fitness. On campus organizations participating include the Women‘s Center, Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender student office, Leisure Center, Student Health Advisory Council, Coalition for a Smoke-free Hawaiʻi, Alcohol and Drug Education Program, and the Student Counseling and Development Center.
The Health Services Education Center also coordinates the Health Fair that is held in April and headed by Glenn Nochi. The center accepts volunteers for programs such as student outreach, which deals with topics like sexual health, healthy body image, health and wellness, and why is smoking harmful.
