The University of Hawaiʻi College of Engineering and Lockheed Martin have entered in to a one year agreement for sharing of resources under the college‘s Industrial Affiliates Program.

As part of the agreement, Lockheed Martin presented a $25,000 check to the college in a ceremony in the office of UH Manoa Chancellor Peter Englert this afternoon.

"We have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Lockheed Martin for several years," Chancellor Englert noted. "At the local office of Lockheed Martin ORINCON, fully two-thirds of the company‘s engineers and 40 percent of the PhD employees are UH graduates. We are really proud to have our College of Engineering so well-represented in this top caliber firm."

Lockheed Martin ORINCON established a two-person office in Hawaiʻi in 1987 to provide digital signal processing to the US Pacific fleet submarine force. Over the last 15 years the office has grown into a $10 million business with 40 employees, and is a major provider of innovative technical solutions for many federal and military systems engaged in missile defense, undersea warfare and information security.

Under the agreement, UH and Lockheed Martin mutually agree to participate in conferences and to share technical expertise and maintain a continuing open dialog on programs that can benefit each.

The College of Engineering also has existing Industrial Affiliate relationships with the Boeing Company and Northrop Grumman.
