HONOLULU — The University of Hawaiʻi has announced the selection of three development teams that will be invited to submit proposals for new construction developments at Hawaiʻi Community College‘s Komohana Campus in Hilo and its University of Hawaiʻi Center in West Hawaiʻi. The submitted proposals will be evaluated by the university, and a recommendation will be made to the UH President and then to the UH Board of Regents for approval in October 2005.

On July 15, 2005, five developers submitted Statements of Qualification in response to the Request for Qualifications issued by the university. Based on these submissions, the following development teams were selected to submit proposals:

· Big Island Campus Development Group, headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, and El Paso, Texas;

· Hawaiʻi Campus Developers, headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, and Atlanta, Georgia; and

· Place Properties, headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, and Atlanta, Georgia

The developers have formed teams with well-established construction, architecture, financial and other firms from Hawaiʻi and the mainland. Upon approval of the developer, both projects will assist Hawai'i Community College to meet the rapidly growing educational needs of the community.

"The construction of new state-of-the-art facilities at these two sites will not only expand our ability to provide a quality education for our students, but also improve morale and give Hawaiʻi Community College a much needed identity," said Hawaiʻi CC Chancellor Rockne Freitas.
