HONOLULU — The University of Hawaiʻi Women‘s Campus Club recently announced the recipients of its 2004 grant awards, which total a new high of $21,583. The grants will go to nine UH departments:

· UH Mānoa‘s Kennedy Theatre and Windward Community College‘s Palikū Theatre received the two largest grants totaling $9,120. The grants will be used to purchase software that will unify the UH ticketing system for all five Oʻahu campuses. Once the software has been installed and training of UH staff and service customers has been completed, tickets for all UH events on Oʻahu will be available online at www.etickethawaii.com. Completion is targeted for the upcoming fall semester.

· UH Mānoa‘s Kennedy Theatre and the Dance Program received a grant of $950 for performance rights and rental fees for the musical "Philimon." The New York show will be presented this fall, a first-time production in Hawaiʻi.

· UH Mānoa‘s Department of Art received a grant of $2,488 to purchase a photo slide scanner to transfer existing material to digital format.

· UH Mānoa‘s Department of Botany received a grant of $850 to purchase a camcorder tape recorder editor for classroom use.

· UH Mānoa‘s Department of Hawaiian and Indo-Pacific Languages and Literatures received a grant of $1,212 for a video recorder, monitor and converter to digitize materials for teaching Asian languages.

· UH Mānoa‘s Hamilton Library received a grant of $1,522 to purchase software for visually-impaired and blind patrons.

· The Lyon Arboretum received a grant of $3,000 to update signs and its database.

· UH Mānoa‘s Center for Biographical Research received a grant of $2,435 to refurbish its heavily-used student, faculty and visitor center.

The Women‘s Campus Club was founded in 1920 to provide service to the University of Hawaiʻi community. Each year the club solicits grant applications from UH Mānoa and community college departments and organizations with special needs that cannot be met by operating budgets. Since 1970, the club‘s two main service projects—the Exchange newsletter and the UH Thrift Shop—have generated enough revenue to fund the club‘s annual grants.

The UH Thrift Shop is located on the UH Mānoa campus, behind the Biomedical Sciences Building and across from the UH Credit Union. It is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and noon to 3 p.m. on Thursdays (validated parking). The Exchange newsletter carries announcements about housing available or wanted for rent or exchange. It is available at Bachman Annex 2 and other locations on the UH Mānoa campus or on the Web at www.soest.hawaii.edu/rentals.

Membership in the Women‘s Campus Club is open to UH faculty, staff, retirees and their spouses. Dues are $10 a year or $25 for three years. For more information, call Carol Schaafsma at 394-9470 or Jacqueline Maly at 247-6866.
