Eric J. Cunningham, a PhD Candidate in the Department of Anthropology will give a CJS Graduate Seminar on Friday, October 22 from 3:00 – 4:30 pm in the Tokioka Room. On October 12 UHM will host an all day symposium titled “Utsushi: The Art of Copying.” Lectures will begin at 9:00 am and feature a number of UHM and CJS faculty members. Dr. Elise Tipton, Honorary Associate Professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Sydney, will give the first CJS seminar of the semester on Friday, September 24, from 3:00-4:30 pm in the Tokioka Room (Moore Hall 318). Dr. Tipton’s talk is titled Moving Up and Out: The ‘Shop Girl’ in Interwar War Japan and looks at the complexities surround department store work and lives of young women in Japan during the 1920s and 1930s.
