Robert (Bob) Nakasone, Special Coordinator at the EWC, Senior Advisor for the Center for Okinawan Studies and longtime friend of the Center for Japanese Studies, was recently honored by the Okinawa Times as a recipient of the newspaper’s annual merit award. Mr. Nakasone was one of five individual awardees at the July 1, reception, held in a ballroom at the Naha Terrace Hotel. He was awarded a letter of gratitude “for constructing a network of Okinawans abroad that supports internationalization.” (Okinawa Times, July 2).

As most of you are probably already aware, the Association of Asian Studies (AAS) is holding their 2011 annual meeting in Honolulu. This is an excellent opportunity for scholars, especially graduate students, to present their work and research to a wide range of scholars and influential figures in a variety of academic areas.
