2011-2012 Center for Japanese Studies fellowships/scholarships, University of Hawaii at Manoa
There have been some recent questions regarding the STAR system and application process for CJS fellowships and scholarships. Hopefully the information below will answer some of the questions applicants might have regarding how to apply. And as always, please feel free to contact Chizuko Allen or CJS with any questions or concerns.
Go to the UH scholarship website: https://www.star.hawaii.edu/scholarship/
Log in with your UH username and password. Incoming students can log in with a 8-digit UH admission/student number.
Click on SEARCH ALL and type “Center for Japanese Studies”
By applying for “Center for Japanese Studies Scholarship Fund” ($15,000 a year), you can automatically apply for the following five (5) smaller fellowships/scholarships at the same time:
John Fee Embree
Minae & Miki Kajiyama
Takie Sugiyama Lebra
These fellowships/scholarships assist full-time graduate students who are enrolled in any department or program at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa with a focus or specialization in Japanese studies. Both U.S. and international students are eligible to apply. Complete the online form and click on the “submit” button by the priority deadline of February 1, 2011.
The online application form asks for the email addresses of your three (3) referees. When submitting your online application, the Star website automatically generates email messages to each of your referees, asking them to reply with a reference form in a week. Note – this means that letters of recommendation are due on February 7 while all other application materials are due on February 1. Please ask your referees to be ready for this Star website email prompt beforehand.
No UH transcript is necessary. Submit your non-UH electronic or paper transcript(s) from your primary undergraduate institution and prior graduate program(s), if any, to email@example.com. Send postal mail to: School of Pacific & Asian Studies Fellowships Coordinator, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Moore Hall 321, 1890 East-West Road, Honolulu, HI 96822.
GRE, GMAT, or LSAT Scores:
With your permission from the application questions, we will try to get your scores from the Graduate Division or your academic department at UH. Otherwise, please send your scores to Fellowships Coordinator.
