2011 Honolulu Okinawan Festival

The Center for Okinawan Studies (COS) again this year ran a booth in the Culture Tent at the 2011 Honolulu Okinawan Festival on September 3rd and 4th.  COS Director Dr. Joyce Chinen, Program Coordinator Ms. Lynette Teruya, and various student and faculty volunteers sat at the table, answering questions about Okinawan Studies at UH, and introducing visitors to recent publications about Okinawa.  UHM English Department Professor Frank Stewart (pictured left) and University of the Ryukyus Professor Katsunori Yamazato (pictured right) drew many visitors to the table on Sunday, when they signed copies of the just-published Living Spirit: Literature and Resurgence in Okinawa (UH Press, 2011), a volume of contemporary Okinawan poems, stories and plays edited by the two scholars.
