UH Manoa Professor Emerita Dr. Kyoko Hijirida (EALL), was recognized in the 2011 Autumn Conferment of Japanese Imperial Decorations, receiving the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. Dr. Hijirida was one of three awardees honored in a ceremony hosted by Consul-General Yoshihiko and Mrs. Kamo at the Consulate-General of Japan in Honolulu. Dr. Hijirida is a former Director of the Center for Okinawan Studies, whose research interests include Okinawan language and Japanese language pedagogy.
