Mr. Shinichi Maehara, retired Executive Director at Okinawa Television Broadcasting (OTV) will be giving a talk in conjunction with his receiving an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. He is the first person from Okinawa to be awarded an honorary doctorate degree from UH. Mr. Maehara has traveled the world extensively, documenting Okinawan lives in various countries, in a documentary series called Sekai Uchinanchu Kikō (Uchinanchu Worldwide). The series ran from 1987 until 2004 and won a National Association of Commercial Broadcasters in Japan Award in 2002.
