On January 17, Akihiko Izukura, renowned textile artist from Kyoto, Japan, presented a talk entitled, “Art and Sustainability” to open his exhibit on the UH-Manoa campus. With more than 200 people in attendance, the event celebrated Mr. Izukura’s indoor and outdoor displays.
As for the lecture itself, Mr. Izukura shared his philosophy and approach to art based on his three guiding principles:
- “compassion for life” 思いやりの美学
- “zero-waste” 廃棄物ゼロ
- “sun and water circulation” 太陽と水の循環
