Center for Okinawan Studies Symposium, March 1-2, 2012

The Center for Okinawan Studies will be holding a symposium on March 1-2, 2012, at the Center for Korean Studies Auditorium. The title of the symposium is, “LABOR MIGRATION: Historical & Contemporary Issues From an ‘Islands’ Perspective.” Please see flyer for details.

Registration is required to help us prepare enough printouts and is limited to the first 90 people due to space constraints. Please send completed registration forms back to COS via email, fax or postal service by FEBRUARY 22, 2012. The fax number, email and mailing addresses are listed on the registration form.

There will be a mix of speakers from Okinawa as well as from Hawaii. The topics covered are: language issues, gender, and the performing arts as related to labor migration.

Funding for this symposium is provided by: the Dean’s Office of the School of Pacific and Asian Studies; UH Student Excellence, Equity and Diversity Fund; University of Hawai’i – West Oahu Distinguished Visiting Faculty Fund; and the Center for Japanese Studies’ Japan Studies Endowment.

  • Almost all of what you claim is supprisingly appropriate and it makes me wonder why I hadn’t looked at this in this light previously. This article really did turn the light on for me personally as far as this particular subject goes. But at this time there is actually 1 issue I am not necessarily too comfy with so whilst I try to reconcile that with the central theme of your point, permit me observe just what all the rest of your visitors have to point out.Nicely done.
