“Japanese Religions, Popular Culture and the Media” by Elisabetta Porcu

As part of our ongoing seminar series, with the help of the Department of Religion, CJS is excited to host a talk by Numata Visiting Professor Dr. Elisabetta Porcu on Thursday, April 11 at 3:30.  Dr. Porcu is Senior Researcher and Lecturer at the Centre for Area Studies at the University of Leipzig and is the founding editor of Brill Publishing’s Journal of Religion in Japan.  She will discuss how and why Japanese religious organizations are adapting to trends such as globalization and mass consumerism by making use of the media and popular culture to attract new adherents.
