Please use the STAR online application system to apply for student scholarships. In the online system, CJS has two groupings of scholarships: Endowed Scholarships and Foreign Language & Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS). If you are eligible and wish to apply for all scholarships including the FLAS fellowship, please submit two applications using the online system. Go to the website: https://www.star.hawaii.edu
Log in with your UH username and password.
Enter “Center for Japanese Studies” in the keyword function search.
Graduate Students, by applying for the “Center for Japanese Studies Scholarship Fund,” you automatically apply for the following five scholarships at once:
- Center for Japanese Studies Graduate Fellowships (approx. $15,000)
- Hanayo Sasaki Graduate Merit Scholarship (approx. $1000)
- Minae and Miki Kajiyama Graduate Scholarship (approx. $4000)
- Tasuku Harada Graduate Scholarship in Japanese Studies (approx. $4500)
- Takie Sugiyama Lebra Fellowship (approx. $3000)
Undergraduate Students may apply for the Avis Morigawara Scholarship ($1000).
The above fellowships/scholarships are for U.S. and international degree-seeking students conducting Japan-related studies at the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa. The values of the above endowed scholarships/fellowships can vary from the above estimates.
