Applying for the CJS Scholarship Fund and FLAS Fellowships

Attention graduate students:

Please use the University’s online application system for student scholarships.  Under this online system, CJS has two groupings of scholarships:  Endowed scholarships and Foreign Language Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS).  If students are eligible and wish to apply for all the scholarships including FLAS fellowships, they must submit two applications using the online STAR system.  Please click here for more information about the FLAS Fellowship.

Directions to enter STAR system:
Go to the website:
Log in with your UH username and password.
Enter “Center for Japanese Studies” in the key word function search.

By applying for “Center for Japanese Studies Scholarship Fund,” you automatically apply for the following six scholarships at once:

Center for Japanese Studies Graduate Fellowships (approx. $15,000)
John Fee Embree Scholarship (approx. $1500)
Hanayo Sasaki Graduate Merit Scholarship (approx. $1000)
Minae and Miki Kajiyama Graduate Scholarship (approx. $4000)
Tasaku Harada Graduate Scholarship in Japanese Studies (approx. $4500)
Takie Sugiyama Lebra Fellowship (approx. $3000)
