JABSOM GUIDELINES FOR TRAVEL
August 6-August 24, 2007

The selective portion of BIOM593 may include 3 weeks of a domestic or international experience. JABSOM does not have funds to support travel, therefore students are expected to pay their own way.

Pre-Trip Requirements

1. Identify a JABSOM faculty member to sponsor your trip.

2. Your JABSOM faculty sponsor will be responsibile for coordinating your experience, for monitoring your trip and for completing the necessary paperwork.Additional information can be found at the Faculty Guidelines.

3. For international travel, only institutions with a Memorandum of Agreement with JABSOM for first year medical students and clinical sites in the JABSOM Residency Program are eligible to host students. Travel to other destinations will not be permited. The deadline for requests for international travel is February 28, 2007.

4. For domestic travel within the continental United States, Alaska and Guam, travel will be permitted to any accredited medical school or institution.

5. Requests for travel will be approved on a case by case basis in conjunction with the Directors of Medical Education and Student Affairs and the Dean's Office.

6. Your JABSOM faculty sponsor is responsible for helping you fulfill the pre-trip, on-site and post-trip requirements.

7. The requirements of the 6 weeks of the Primary Care Preceptorship must be completed before leaving.

On-Site Requirements (August 6 - August 24, 2007)

1. Meet once per week with your host faculty sponsor.

2. For international travel, have your host faculty sponsor email Dr Kramer three (3) times (on arrival, mid-visit and just before leaving).

3. At the end of your stay, have your host faculty member fill out the Selective Evaluation Form.

Post Trip Requirements (due by August 31, 2007)

Complete the following items:
1) Submit a reflection essay of your experience, including your comments and suggestions for improving the experience next year.
2) Arrange for an informational seminar for JABSOM faculty and students about your experiences and
3) Meet with the course director of BIOM593 about the feedback received from the host faculty sponsor.
