FAQ

Q: Can you design a single lesson for me? Can you design an entire course? Can you design an entire program of courses?

A: Yes! We are happy to work with you to meet your needs, whether that means a single lesson or online module, a full academic program, or a training series.

Q: Why do academic programs hire DCDC rather than doing the work on their own?

A: While most educators excel in their subject area, they often don’t have the expertise or time to create the components of online learning that make it most effective: viable multimedia learning interactions and professional look and feel. The DCDC provides the instructional design and multimedia expertise to make sure that the instructor’s subject knowledge is delivered in the online medium as powerfully and effectively as possible. Hiring the DCDC to produce courses allows instructors to focus on what’s important: the content and students’ needs.

Q: Are DCDC services free to the University of Hawai‘i?

A: No, we are self-funded UH entity, providing services for hire. We can, however, show you how to design a distance program that pays for itself.

Q: Can the course instructor alter the online courses made by the DCDC?

A: Yes. We design courses to make it easy for the instructor to change the content, even if he or she does not have any special technical skills. For additional flexibility, the instructor can choose to use only specific parts of the course, or add further resources to it – using the materials however he or she chooses.

Q: Does the DCDC provide training for UH clients on Laulima, Blackboard, or other learning management systems?

A: Yes, individualized training can be developed and delivered based on your particular needs.

Q: Does the DCDC provide training or consulting for corporate and government clients on learning management systems?

A: We can provide training to your staff on the use, functionality, and deployment of your learning management system (LMS). We can also provide consulting to on how to choose an LMS and implement it in your organization.
