Topics: Issues, themes, debates and practices in multicultural education; promotion of cultural awareness and knowledgeable reflection; skill development for professionals in multicultural environments. - EDEF 678—Methods of Educational Inquiry
Topics: Orientation to research; technology skills crucial to EDEF 469 Field Studies; web page development; brainstorming projects; review of literature available related to project topics; reflecting on practival ideas that lend themselves to 469 projects. - EDEA 780F—Curriculum Administration
Topics: Development and management of curricula; factors affecting curriculum development; management of time and resources; examination of the wider picture beyond the classroom related to curriculum. - EDEA 780G—Governance of Private Schools
Topics: Effective governance; board-head-constituent relations; finance; development; planning; private school law.
Fall 2003 / Spring 2004
- EDEF 469—Field Studies in Educational Foundations
After admission and before attendance, students will be expected to think through, with the leadership of their schools, a project that would work at or be helpful to the shcool. During the first summer, the project will be refined. In the fall, students will research the literature germane to the project and develop an action plan for the spring. In the spring, students will implement their action plan and then evaluate the success of the project. Past projects have included new curriculum thrusts and building school culture.

- EDEF 610—Foundations of Educational Theory
Topics: In-depth review of philosophical, social, and historical views underlying various theories of education and their application in private school teaching and learning. - EDEA 620 —Private School Finance
Topics: Revenues, expenditures, process and procedures, business management, development and fundraising, planning, organizational change and policy. - EDEA 675—Educational Policy Studies
Topics: Educational policy and policy-making at various government levels and related private school law. - EDEA 762—Seminar on Social and Cultural Contexts in Education
Topics: Comparative international educational issues; marketing non-profits; public purposes of private schools.

The College of Education programs are fully accredited by the Hawai‘i State Department of Education and nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
