Transdisciplinary Motor Clinic for Young Children
Welcome to the Transdisciplinary Motor Clinic for Young Children at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
Overview of the Program
The Transdisciplinary Motor Learning Clinic for Young Children was established in 2002 with support form the University of Hawaii’s Educational Improvement Fund, College of Education (COE) and Department of Kinesiology and Leisure Science (KLS). The Clinic’s objectives are: (1) to provide an on-campus teaching site for children from various disciplines to teach children in a structured movement environment, and (2) to enhance fine and gross motor skills and patterns for young children.
The program seeks to improve teaching and learning capacity for all (both graduate and undergraduate) UHM students. For children who participate, the program goal is to provide developmentally appropriate small-group physical activities in which each child will:
- become aware of abilities to function successfully with others,
- build competencies in fundamental movement abilities, and
- nurture social involvement in cooperative and competitive behaviors.
Disciplines within the University
Any University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa academic program may advise majors to participate in this program. The transdisciplinary nature of this Motor Learning Clinic makes it unique.
