College of Education: Technology and Distance Programs

Overview

The College of Education has offered many courses and programs to the neighbor islands since 1991. The College is grateful to UH-Manoa administration for commitment of support for neighbor island outreach. In 2001, a proposal supporting continuous neighbor island offerings was approved. This enables the College to meet its commitment for continually offering elementary, secondary, special education, and graduate level programs to neighbor islands. For the first time, these programs can be offered on a regular and consistent basis.

The College is committed to providing teacher education and advanced professional development opportunities throughout the state. To accomplish this, the College is converting delivery of many courses to Internet, streaming media and interactive video formats to accommodate statewide enrollments. As program planning and faculty training continue, our programs are becoming less geography-bound and more available to all neighbor island residents simultaneously. Additionally, the College will soon provide Internet-based test-preparation for prospective teachers and expand the interactive television infrastructure for inter-island delivery.
