This project is a collaborative effort between the University of Hawaii, College of Education’s Manoa Partnership program and the Greenleaf Center on Servant Leadership in Indianapolis.  The goal is to give students and teachers the skills by which they can be leaders.  Workshops and special classes are in development stages and will be offered to Get FIT students, COE students, and teachers who are interested in participating.  The first of these workshops will be available in the Fall semester of 2009.

The Servant Leadership 9 (SL9) that have been designed especially for purposes of this project all come from the original work of Robert Greenleaf.  These are: integrity, respect, community, communication, ethics, innovation, vision, collaboration, and stewardship.  The +1 is added by each group of students or teachers as it reflects their particular culture, age group, or other guiding feature.

Participants will be involved in projects to help them gain an understanding of the meaning of the various components of servant leadership.  Additionally, participants will be given opportunities to apply these SL9+1 attributes within the context of a civic engagement activity.  When the project is completed, participants receive a certificate stating that they have participated in servant leadership training.  Participants will also be invited to attend and present at the annual Greenleaf Conference.
