Program: Educational Foundations

Katherine is a doctoral student in Ed. Foundations. She has a BA in Asian Studies and a MA is Transcultural Studies. She has studied abroad in France, Japan and China, and speaks French, German, Chinese and Japanese. Katherine's research interests include: cross-cultural approaches to conflict management and transformation, spiritual education, intercultural communication and global citizenship education.

 

Sharon Fukayama

Program: Curriculum and Instruction

Sharon Fukayama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. She attended La Pietra before going to Keio Academy in New York. After graduating from high school, Sharon studied education and early childhood language acquisition at Keio University in Japan. Upon returning to Hawaii after college, she continued her education and received a Masters degree in education from Chaminade University. Currently, Sharon is a doctoral student in curriculum and instruction at the University of Hawaii.

Sharon enjoys being active. She does karate, gymnastics, judo, and golf. She also bakes cupcakes and energy bars. Her favorite TV show is John and Kate plus 8. In her spare time she likes to play video games.

Kimble McCann

Program: Educational Technology

Kimble is a doctoral student in Ed Tech.  He has a B.B.A. in Management Information Systems, a M.A. in Special Education, and an M.A. in Instructional Technology.  His research interests include:  distance education, universal design for learning, diffusion of innovation, and social justice. 

In his spare time, Kimble enjoys recording music, spending time outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.

Jay Taniguchi

Program: Curriculum Studies

Jay received his bachelor and master’s degree from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa and is interested in elementary Language Arts education.  Jay’s research interests include the use of portfolios and other student-centered assessments in the elementary Language Arts curriculum.

Jay enjoys listening to classical music and reading a variety of children’s books in his spare time.

Soo Park

Program: Curriculum Studies

Soo is currently a fulltime high school English teacher who just
received her MA in Curriculum Studies. She has a BS in Travel Industry Management and a BA in English. She is fluent in Korean and taught ESL and TOEFL writing in Korea for four years. Soo's research interests include social justice education, writing curriculum, and transition to college. After fulfilling her roles as teacher, student, and mother, Soo enjoys watching Korean soaps, cooking for her family, and reading with her son.

 

Chris Lucas

Program: Educational Administration (Higher Education)

Chris is a graduate assistant for the Office of Student Academic Services in the College of Education. Originally from Indiana, he has research interests in judicial affairs, student governance, and access to higher education.

Kevin Lima

Program: Educational Administration

Currently Kevin is a full-time police administrator and a part-time criminal justice instructor at two higher education institutions. He has earned a BS in Criminal Justice Management and a MA in Human Resource Management. He is a 1999 graduate of the 197th session of the FBI National Academy. His research interests are in distance learning for law enforcement, as well as the significance of a college education for police officers.

Michael Kalani Laughlin

Program: Kinesiology and Rehabilitative Science

Michael is a current doctoral student and graduate assistant in KRS with an emphasis on Adapted Physical Education.  He has a B.Ed. in Physical Education and a M.S. in Adapted Physical Education both from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He has experience teaching in Hawaii's public and private school in both physical education and special education.  In his free time he likes to play soccer and enjoy the outdoors.

 

Eddie Gose

Program: Educational Technology

Eddie is a second year doctoral student in the College of Education's newest PhD program (Educational Technology). He is one of the two multimedia specialist in the DCDC Group. He is a proponent for effective online instruction and pedagogy. Eddie has instructed many courses dealing with online development of courses to the uses of various multimedia tools used for distance education.  Eddie also enjoys gaming and the impacts it has on education.  On his freetime, he loves learning about new media technologies and the Web 2.0.

 

Kavita Rao

Kavita Rao is an Assistant Professor in the Special Education Department, College of Education, UH Manoa. Kavita has worked with teachers and students in Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, CNMI, Palau, RMI, and the Federated States of Micronesia for the past decade. Her interests in include assistive technology, distance learning, multimedia, and literacy for children from diverse backgrounds.
