Description
The goal of this project is to establish and refine standards, and develop
training for a new designation of "information technology intensive
courses."
Objectives
- Develop
a set of standards required for the information technology intensive
course designation
- Design a two-week
training program and set of instructional materials for faculty to
redesign their courses and integrate technology based on the standards
for technology intensive courses
- Train 15 to
20 faculty members to develop information technology intensive courses
to assist faculty members in the redesign of their curriculum and
in the development of course materials
- Deliver 15 to
20 information technology intensive course during the 1998 school
year

and professional development courses for a new designation of "technology
intensive" courses.
Objectives
- Train 15 to 20
teacher education faculty members to develop technology intensive
courses
- Design a training
program and set of instructional materials for faculty to redesign
their courses and integrate technology
- Technology based
on the standards for technology intensive course
- Assist faculty
members in the redesign of their curriculum and in the developments
of course materials
- Deliver 15 to
20 technology intensive courses during the 1998-99 school year
At the completion
of the project, the participants will be able to:
- Develop technology
intensive courses based on designated technology intensive standards
- Select appropriate
technology and software applications related to course content
- Create activities
designed to engage students in the use of technology and course content
- Model effective
design and use of technology
- Demonstrate proficiency
in variety of software applications related to se in their courses,
particularly to enhance science and math concepts
- Develop alternative
assessment instruments for evaluating technology-based projects
- Evaluate and
improve their course based on student assessments.

Year
Three
Description
The
goal of this project is to: continue supporting the redesign of 12 teacher
education and professional development courses for a new designation
of "technology intensive" courses; and to provide course development
support and professional development of a new group of 10 to 15 faculty
and teachers in partnership schools.
Objectives
- Continue to provide
support for 12 faculty members, particularly through one-on-one assistance
during course development and implementation with the participating
K-12 schools during 1998 and 1999
- Provide professional
development for an additional 10 to 15 teacher education faculty members
to begin to develop technology intensive courses
- Provide resources
such as the Technology Intensive web page for faculty to redesign
their courses and integrate technology based on the standards for
technology intensive courses
- Assist faculty
members in the redesign of their curriculum and in the development
of course materials
- Deliver an additional
10 to 15 prototype technology intensive courses during the 1999-2000
school year.
At the completion
of the project, the faculty participants will be able to:
- Develop technology
intensive courses based on designated technology intensive standards
- Select appropriate
technology and software applications related to course content and
Hawaii State DOE academic content and student performance standards
- Create activities
designed to engage students in the use of technology and course content
- Model effective
design and use of technology
- Demonstrate proficiency
in using technology in their courses, particularly to enhance reading,
science, and math concepts
- Help student
teachers develop and implement technology-based instructional strategies
related to the Hawaii State DOE academic content and student performance
standards in their field-centered practica and classroom settings
- Develop alternative
assessment instruments for evaluating technology based projects
- Evaluate and
improve their course based on student assessments
