2018-2019 Scholarship Application

The Manawa Kūpono 2018-2019 scholarship application period is open February 8, 2018 through April 6, 2018.

You are eligible for our scholarship if you meet the following requirements:

  1. Be of Hawaiian ancestry.
  2. Be a classified undergraduate student at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa during the 2018-2019 academic school year.
  3. Demonstrate financial need based on the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) from the 2018-2019 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) http://fafsa.ed.gov/.
  4. Possess a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better (on a 4.00 scale) at the time of application.

Application Requirements:

Don’t forget to start early! These are the items you will need to include with your application.

  • Manawa Kūpono Scholarship Application.
  • Proof of Hawaiian ancestry (Please only submit one hard copy of any of the following: Applicant’s Birth Certificate, Department of Hawaiian Home Land lessee (DHHL), Hawaiian Registry at OHA, Operation ʻOhana at OHA, or Kamehameha Schools Hoʻoulu Hawaiian Data Center Verification Letter).
  • Personal Essay- Write up to 2 pages (max) addressing the following topic: If awarded the Manawa Kūpono scholarship, how do you plan to give back to the Hawaiian community by… (your response should include your plans while still in college as well as after you graduate from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa).
  • Resume (Should be up-to-date and critiqued. See Mānoa Career Center for assistance, if needed).
  • A copy of completed 2018-2019 Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
  • Two letters of recommendation obtained from academic instructors.
  • Official copy of your UHM college transcript. If you have transfer credits from institutions outside of the UH System, please submit a copy of your official transcripts.


TO APPLY:

Submit application and all required documents to Manawa Kūpono no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, April 6, 2018. Applications and/or any required documents received or postmarked after the deadline will be deemed late and not considered. Manawa Kūpono will not consider any application or required document that is received electronically through facsimile or email.
