Karen Stevenson
Karen Stevenson is a senior lecturer in the School of Fine Arts, University of Canterbury.  She received an MA in both art history and Pacific Islands studies from the University of Hawai'i in 1981, and was awarded a PhD in Oceanic art history from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1988. She moved to Christchurch in 1995 where she teaches the arts of the Pacific. Her writings and research have focused on the politics and institutionalization of culture, art and identity, the Pacific Arts Festival, and, most recently, contemporary Pacific art.
