Te Ahukaramū Charles Royal

Te Ahukaramū Charles Royal is a writer, researcher, and musician and belongs to Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Tamaterā and Ngā Puhi. He is a Director of Mauriora-ki-te-Ao/Living Universe Ltd and between 1996 and 2002 was Director of Graduate Studies and Research at Te Wānanga-o-Raukawa, Ōtaki. Charles is a long-time researcher of mātauranga Māori, including iwi histories and traditions, and has written and/or edited five books. He currently divides his time between two projects. One project is entitled "Te Kaimānga: Towards a New Vision for Mātauranga Māori," a research project funded (2004-2007) by the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology. Charles is also the founder of Ōrotokare: Art, Story, Motion, a new organisation dedicated to indigenous theatre and performing arts and based upon Charles's master's and doctoral research.
