international conferences

The center’s annual international conferences bring together scholars, students, and interested community people from around the world to discuss topics of particular relevance to Pacific studies. These conferences aim to advance knowledge in the field, as well as stimulate new research and collaboration. The topics explored at these conferences range from an assessment of past endeavors, such as “American Anthropology in Micronesia,” to a consideration of ongoing issues, such as “Out of Oceania: Diaspora, Community, and Identity.” Some conferences have also looked at aspects of program building, such as developing Pacific library collections and planning for a PhD in Pacific studies. The center's 2010 conference will be "Celebrating Connections: 60 Years of Pacific Studies."
