INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE HAWAII FILIPINO CENTENNIAL
Dec. 13-17, 2006, Ala Moana Hotel, 410 Atkinson Drive, Honolulu HI 96814

Papers for the International Conference, will address the theme, but not limited to, "Filipinos in Hawaii: 100 Years and Beyond." Topics also touch on broader historical or contemporary Philippine issues, such as:

Theories on international migration
The U.S. annexation of the Philippines and Hawaii
Origin of the first sakadas (Visayas, Ilocos, Central Luzon, etc.)
Settler destinations of Filipino migrants (Mindanao, Hawaii, California)
Labor recruitment practices of the Hawaii Sugar Planters' Association (HSPA)
Filipinos in Hawaii and the U.S. prior to 1906
Conditions on the sugar plantations (Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Big Island, etc.)
