Until Spring 1996, the Center published the tri-annual
Philippine Studies Newsletter distributed internationally for the Philippine Studies Group of the
Association for Asian Studies. The Center
also co-publishes the Southeast Asian and Philippine Studies News Bulletin with
the Center for Southeast Asian
Studies at UHM.
For coverage of the Marcos martial law regime, old issues of the underground newsletter,
Pahayag, are still available at Moore Hall 415 and at Hamilton Library.
The issues cover the years 1972-1977, under the editorship of "Merlin Castro" (pen name of
Belinda A. Aquino). Pahayag was published monthly by a liberal group of
Filipinos and Americans concerned about the present and future conditions in the Philippines,
then under Martial Law. Its last issue was Nos. 51-52, 1977, when Pahayag
bowed out of existence.
