Ms. Enriquez will address such questions as

  • What has been the impact of the escalating U.S. war in the Philippines?
  • Why is the U.S. widening its war in the Philippines?
  • What is the connection between the military expansion in Waikane Valley and other locations in Hawaii and the U.S. war in the Philippines?

Marie Hilao-Enriquez is the Secretary General of KARAPATAN, an alliance of non-government organizations (NGOs) and a leading human rights advocacy and monitoring group in the Philippines. She helped file a landmark class action suit in a federal court in Hawaii on behalf of the victims of former Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos. KARAPATAN recently organized fact-finding missions to Basilan and Sulu in the southern Philippines, where the U.S. conducted joint military exercises with the Philippine military.
