CSAS would like to congratulate our three new J. Watumull Scholars for the Study of India. They are:
Lauren Armstrong, Department of Urban and Regional Planning. Lauren wants to go to the Himalaya Region of India in order to investigate major challenges facing rural communities in the state of Sikkim. She is particularly interested in the connection between natural resources and tribal economies in the Himalaya Region.
Amit Chaturvedi, Philosophy Department. Amit will enroll in the AIIS Summer Language Program in Sanskrit in order to increase his proficiency with the Sanskrit Language. He plans to use this proficiency to carry out research on a number of ancient philosophical texts from South Asia.
Sheri Lyles, Department of Art and Art History. Sheri plans to further her intrests in ecology by going to India to investigate the humane and environmental consequence of corporate agriculture in India. She plans to work with eco-feminist activist Dr. Vandana Shiva.
