Dr. M. S. S. Pandian 2008 Rama Watumull Distinguished Visiting Scholar

The Center for South Asian Studies is pleased to welcome in Spring 2008, Rama Watumull Distinguished Visiting Scholar, Dr. M. S. S. Pandian. A member of the "Subaltern Studies" editorial collective, Dr. Pandian recently published Brahmin & Non-Brahmin: Genealogies of the Tamil Political Present with Permanent Black. He will lead a Political Science graduate seminar on caste and subaltern theory this Spring.



Dr. Pandian is Visiting Fellow of the Sarai Programme, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi and has taught at numerous universities in India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He sits on the New York-based Social Science Reseach Council's South Asia Advisory Panel.

His other book publications include Muslims, Dalits, and the Fabrications of History, edited with Shail Mayaram and Ajay Skaria,The Image Trap: M G Ramachandran in Film and Politics, published in 1992, and The Political Economy of Agrarian Change: Nanchilnadu 1880-1939, published in 1990.

The CSAS is honored to host this distinguished visiting scholar.
