UH Student Kathy Nii has been selected by the United States Department of State as a recipient of a Critical Language
Scholarship. Only three UH Students were selected. Kathy will be studying Bangla/Bengali.

In the summer of 2010, Kathy spent three weeks in Dhaka, Bangladesh with the support of the University Research Council’s Summer Research Award. She was there to conduct field work for her senior honors project about the role of cultural activism in the country’s 1971 Liberation War. Kathy has studied in UH and Bangladesh with former Andrews Visitng Chair Dr. Sonia Amin from Dhaka and UH Professor Ned Bertz in the History Department.
