Southeast Asian Studies Student Association

Qualifications: graduate student currently enrolled at UH, focusing on some aspect of Southeast Asian studies.

Requirements: able to commit to one semester (one issue) of production and attend meetings every other Friday. Variety of duties includes reading manuscripts, proofreading, typesetting, formatting, communications and publicity.

Preferred: Critical thinkers, good writing/reading/editing skills, knowledge of Southeast Asia.

The process: We meet as often as necessary--usually, about once every two weeks.. Submissions are collected throughout the Fall semester, and put to a blind review. Several rounds of readings are required for consensus on selection of papers. The board consults with one faculty member for each paper; and revisions on individual papers are sent to the authors for changes. A final reading of manuscripts occurs before final edits are made, after which intensive formatting and proofreading are completed before submitting for online and print publication (through the Center for Southeast Asian Studies).
