In
addition to my work at CSLR, I am currently pursuing a Ph.D degree in
Second Language Acquisition in the Department of Second Language Studies
at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I am also serving as an assistant
to the U.S. editor for the Journal of Applied Linguistics.
I received my
M.A. degree in English as a Second Language from the Department of Second
Language Studies at UH. Together with Dr. Craig Chaudron and Dr. Hanh
Nguyen, I was
involved in the development of the Vietnamese Elicited
Imitation Test through the National Foreign Language Resource Center
(NFLRC).
My previous degrees include a B.S. in Speech and Hearing Science
from the University of Washington in Seattle, and a B.A. in ESL and a B.A.
in Music from Eastern Washington University. I have taught ESL in the
Pacific Northwest and Hawaii, and spent several years in Japan as an
EFL instructor and language school manager and owner.
My professional areas
of interest include immigrants, adults, and non-privileged or marginalized
learners, critical theory, language and identity, language and power, critical
ethnography, narrative inquiry, bilingualism, L2 processing, and language
and learning disorders.
