In addition to my work at CSLR, I am currently pursuing a Ph.D degree in Second Language Acquisition in the Department of Second Language Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I am also serving as an assistant to the U.S. editor for the Journal of Applied Linguistics.

I received my M.A. degree in English as a Second Language from the Department of Second Language Studies at UH. Together with Dr. Craig Chaudron and Dr. Hanh Nguyen, I was involved in the development of the Vietnamese Elicited Imitation Test through the National Foreign Language Resource Center (NFLRC).

My previous degrees include a B.S. in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Washington in Seattle, and a B.A. in ESL and a B.A. in Music from Eastern Washington University. I have taught ESL in the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii, and spent several years in Japan as an EFL instructor and language school manager and owner.

My professional areas of interest include immigrants, adults, and non-privileged or marginalized learners, critical theory, language and identity, language and power, critical ethnography, narrative inquiry, bilingualism, L2 processing, and language and learning disorders.
