Hello,
my name is Priti Sandhu and I am teaching SLS 380 this semester, Fall
2005. I am a PhD candidate in Second Language Acquisition from the Department
of Second Language Studies, University of Manoa. I have a double Masters,
in English Literature from Garhwal University, India, and in TESOL from
Lancaster University, UK. I also have a B.Ed degree from Annamalai University,
India, and a post graduate certificate in the teaching of English from
CIEFL, Hyderabad, India. I have been teaching English since 1990. In
India, I taught both language and literature in high school for three
years. Then I worked for the Ministry of Education, Sultanate of Oman,
for a period of nine years and taught EFL to the Omani students in Secondary
School. While in Oman, I also taught EFL in adult education programs
for three years. At Lancaster University, I taught EAP to international
students for a summer course. Then I worked in a language college in
London for a while and taught ESL to young adults. Since joining the
UH, I have taught Writing and Listening/Speaking courses at the English
Language Institute (ELI) and have worked as the Lead Teacher for the
Listening/Speaking curriculum area. Currently, I am the Co-Lead Teacher
in this area. I am also involved in developing a text-book for ELI. My
current research interests lie in identity, gender and English medium
education in the Indian context.
