Project summary

The Foreign Language Partnership Project

This project, funded by the  National Foreign Language Resource Center at UHM, involved a foreign language partnership in which high school heritage language speakers of Ilokano and Samoan tutored university students studying these languages.  The edited volume (Davis, 1999) resulting from this project details the theories, processes, and positive outcomes of efforts to draw on community language and cultural resources for foreign language instruction.  The CSLR received reports of comprehensive programs based on this model being carried out in the U.S. Mainland, Australia, and Japan.
