GEAR UP

GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. The University of Hawai`i at Mānoa GEAR UP is a partnership between the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa, Sanford B. Dole Middle School, Kalākaua Middle School, Farrington High School, and several community agencies, which include Kokua Kalihi Valley, Kalihi YMCA, Susannah Wesley Community Cener, America’s Promise Hawai‘i, Princeton Review, Hawai`i Community Foundation, and Kalihi Business Association.

GEAR UP is designed to prepare students for college through mentoring, counseling, academic tutoring, college planning, college test preparation, financial aid, and college campus visits.

Currently, GEAR UP works with the class of 2006 at Dole Middle School and Kalākaua Middle School and will follow these students as they finish middle school and continue their education at Farrington High School.
