Course Description: An introductory survey of computers and their role in the information world emphasizing computer terminology, hardware, and software. Opportunities for hands-on experience using applications software may include spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, communications, and databases. Note: This is a computer-mediated course using the Internet for content delivery. Students will have hands-on interactive experiences with computer applications.

Technical Requirements: The Internet allows students to take a course at home using a personal computer. Familiarity with using a computer and basic Internet skills (browsing, sending e-mail, saving/sending files) is required. Students must have a computer with Internet access. Depending on the online course, students may be required to log in at a specific day and time or at anytime. Students taking an online course should always contact their instructor after registration or prior to the first day of class to get detailed information regarding the course.


Students must have access to a computer system that meets the following requirements:

(1) Windows 98, ME, NT (Service Pack 6 or higher), 2000 or XP, (2) A Pentium 400 Mhz processor or better, (3) 128 MB RAM, (4) 500 MB available hard disk space, (5) 800x600 DPI resolution or higher, at least 256 colors, (6) Mouse, (7) An Internet connection with a 56.k or higher modem or network connection (DSL or cable modem highly recommended), (8) Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher browser with Java and Javascript enabled.


Course requires students to have access to MS Word 2010 or 2013, MS Excel 2010 or 2013 & MS Powerpoint 2010 or 2013.
